Knowing the basics is important, otherwise you look like a fool ordering a bottle of wine! That first date, first impression you want to make will be mastered with these easy rules.

– Know that Merlot is a red wine: I had a table recently ask “We would like  a bottle of white wine, Merlot Please?” The girl he was with looked at him a laughed, “you mean red sweetie?” “Ya Ya red” like he knew what he was talking about. Like any server, I looked at this as opportunity. I then proceeded to sell him on the most expensive bottle of Merlot that we had, he would have bought anything to make up for the embarrassment!!!

– Common delicious red’s are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Malbec, and Chianti

– Common White Wines are: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Semillon
